Shakti & Bhakti:
Uniting Hearts Through the Power of Love and Devotion
Who is Shakti & Bhakti?
Shakti & Bhakti is a Dayton, Ohio–based kirtan group devoted to spreading the joy of sacred chanting, meditation, and community through music. We lead kirtans, bhajans, and mantra gatherings throughout Dayton and the surrounding areas of southwest Ohio, welcoming yoga practitioners, spiritual seekers, and lovers of devotional music.
Our kirtans blend East-West sounds—traditional Indian call-and-response chanting infused with original melodies—to create meditative, heart-opening experiences. Each event begins with a guided meditation to unite the group in one shared vibration: one voice, one heart, one love.
Our Philosophy
At Shakti & Bhakti, kirtan is more than music—it is satsang, the company of truth. In this time of distraction and division, gathering together to sing the Divine Name becomes an act of healing, unity, and remembrance. Through mantra, we nourish and protect the mind. Through nada yoga—union through sacred sound—we awaken bhakti, the path of love and devotion. Our chants are living prayers that invite participants to release sorrow, uplift the spirit, and return to the heart’s innate peace.
The meaning behind our name
Shakti means the power to be and the power to become—the creative energy of the universe.
Bhakti means love and devotion, the path of cultivating an intense love for God.
Together, Shakti & Bhakti represent the power of divine love in action: when the power of being merges with the devotion of the heart, duality dissolves and unity remains.
Our sound and offerings
Our music includes:
Traditional Sanskrit bhajans and mantras
Original devotional songs written and performed by the band
A fusion of Indian and Western instrumentation creates an intimate, meditative sound
Every chant aims to lead participants into the expansion of the heart—a space of connection, peace, and joy.
